I love debates about AR and VR — Which is better technology? Who will surpass who? Which is more viable? Which is more user-friendly?

While pursuing my Masters in Digital Media at UBC (University of British Columbia, Vancouver), I designed multiple projects on both platforms. You can check my Behance portfolio.

The distinction between AR and VR may become less clear as technology advances, and the two technologies will increasingly overlap and integrate.

However, it’s safe to say that both AR and VR will continue to evolve and grow in popularity in different areas and industries. However, it’s important to note that developing both technologies requires a multidisciplinary approach and the integration of various technologies such as Computer Vision, 3D modelling, and software engineering.

Some advantages of AR include the following:

  1. It can enhance and augment the real world rather than replace it entirely.
  2. It can be used for various applications, such as gaming, education, and industrial training.
  3. It can be used on mobile devices, making it more accessible to a broader range of users.

Coming to the original question. How can ChatGPT help with augmented Reality (AR) technology? Well, below is my vision:

1. Natural Language Processing (NLP):

ChatGPT can process and understand natural language inputs from users, which can be used to control and interact with AR experiences.

2. Generating descriptions and instructions:

ChatGPT can generate precise and concise descriptions and instructions for AR experiences, making them more accessible and user-friendly.

3. Content generation:

ChatGPT can generate 3D models, animations, and other content for AR experiences.

4. Content curation:

ChatGPT can curate and filter large amounts of content, such as images or videos, to ensure that only the most relevant and appropriate content is used in AR experiences.

5. Chatbot integration:

ChatGPT can be integrated into chatbot systems, enabling users to interact with AR experiences using natural language, making the interaction more intuitive and seamless.

6. Personalization:

ChatGPT can personalize AR experiences based on user preferences and behaviour, providing a more engaging and immersive experience.

PS: I have motion sickness and can’t wear VR Headset for more than 15 minutes. Hence, I am a little biased toward AR until Virtual Headsets are too light and too comfortable to wear for users like me :)
